If you’re new to hiring voice talent—or just want a smoother process—this page answers the most common voiceover questions I get from clients. Q: What's the Process Like? How Does This Work?
Great Question!
1. You provide me with your script.
2. Let me know the intended usage and how long the audio will be used (see “Usage” and “Duration” sections below).
3. I’ll send you a quote, usually same day or next day. (Retakes and revisions are outlined separately below).
4. Once we agree to proceed, you pay a session fee/deposit.
5. I record, edit, and deliver the audio to you.
6. You approve the audio or request any revisions.
7. I send you the final invoice.
8. You make the payment.

Q: Can You Do a Live Directed Session?
Yes, absolutely! We can schedule a live session via Source Connect, Zoom, or Google Meet. On the day of the session, you’ll join the video session, provide real-time direction, and listen to the audio directly from the booth mic. Afterward, I can send you either the raw session or the final edited file, depending on your preference.
Q: How Are Rates Calculated?
Several factors are taken into account when providing a quote for voiceover services:
1. Project Type
What kind of project are you working on? This could include categories such as broadcast commercials, corporate narration, explainer videos, telephony (IVR or message on hold), eLearning, medical narration, and more.
2. Project Length
How long will the final product be? Length can be measured in time, word count, or page count, depending on the type of project.
3. Intended Use
Where and how will the voiceover be used? For example, broadcast (TV or radio, which markets, how many markets, and the market size), web (for a website, paid advertisements, social media, YouTube, etc.), or internal corporate use. For a good explanation of usage for those who hire voiceover, click here. If I don’t know the usage, I can’t accurately quote the project.
4. Usage Period
How long do you plan to use the voiceover? Is it for 3 months, 6 months, a year, or longer?
5. Budget
It’s helpful to have a reasonable budget based on industry standards. If you’re unsure, I can provide objective information about typical market rates to help guide your decision.
Q: What's Your Turnaround Time?
My current average turnaround time for shorter (non audiobook type projects) is 1-2 business days or less. I can provide a more specific time line in your individualized quote once I see the script.
Q: How are the Final Files Delivered?
I can provide the files in any professional format your prefer (most often .mp3 or .wav), and can send via email, DropBox, Google Drive, or WeTransfer. Let me know if you have a different prefered delivery method.
Q: What's Your Policy On Retakes and Revisions?
Retakes (my mistakes) are included at no cost.
Revisions (changes made to the script after recording):
- Minor Revisions (one or two words): $50
- Major Revisions (more than two words): $100 minimum
- Re-Reads => 30% of the original script: Original rate
Performance Retakes (undirected sessions):
For undirected sessions, where I am recording the files in my studio at my own direction and sending them to you, if you need me to re-do lines for performance reasons, I’m happy to do one round of Performance Retakes at no cost. Please try to communicate any and all direction and/or change of direction at this time. After the first round of retakes, subsequent rounds are charged as Revisions, above.
If retakes are required for pronunciation preferences that are not specified either by a pronunciation guide or otherwise in writing, these will be treated as Revisions and are billable. Examples: “ee-ther” vs. “eye-ther,” “off-ten” vs. “off-en,” “oh” vs. “zero.”
When sending a change request, please highlight the lines in the original script or list the full sentence to be re-recorded, the sentence before, and the sentence after so I know what I’m talking about. If applicable, please include the time index of the audio/video file so I can better match tone and pace.
Please submit all change requests within 30 days of receiving the original recording. After 30 days, any and all change requests will be charged the original rates.
Q: What's Your Studio Set up?
Q: What's Your Policy for AI Voice Usage?
AI (Artificial Intelligence) or Synthetic Voice Policy
It’s pretty simple! Everything I produce is BY ME, a real human. You agree:
- The audio will only be used for the project outlined in the contract
- You will not use my voice to create AI, synthetic, or cloned voices
- You will not share or sell the recordings for AI or machine learning purposes
- You will not allow others to use my voice for AI without my permission
- You’ll take reasonable steps to keep files secure and protected
